Samsung Galaxy Ban: Dutch Finds Some Products Infringe Apple Patent

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - A Dutch court ruled on Wednesday that some of Samsung Electronics' Galaxy smartphones and tablets infringe an Apple patent in the latest round of the two firms' worldwide battle.

The court ordered Samsung Electronics to pay Apple damages, determined by how much profit it has made from the sales.

The patent dispute concerns the Android operating system versions 2.2.1 to 3.0 used on Samsung's Galaxy tablets and smartphones, the court said.

Samsung and Apple, the world's top two smartphone makers, are locked in patent disputes in at least ten countries as they vie to dominate the lucrative mobile market and win over customers with their latest gadgets.

Samsung, the world's top maker of smartphones, infringed Apple patents to make its smartphones and tablets, a U.S. trade panel judge said in a preliminary decision issued last month.

Samsung won a court case last month in the Netherlands, when a Dutch court ruled the company did not infringe an Apple patent by using certain multi-touch techniques on some of the Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablet computers.

The Perfect Gift For Your Woman

It’s quite apparent that all ladies will have a soft corner for the Accessories MP3 Player. Honestly, how many MP3 players can be as subtle and discreet as this! Fashion statement, jewelry, bling…you name it, and it’s there! I adore the little loop earring that goes into the ear as headphones, now only if Cartier or Tiffany can get a whiff of this…

Action-based video games get players on their feet

New video games mixing music with real-world action promise to get players off the couch, turning basketball dribblers into “true ballers” and helping new moms tighten their tummies.
“NBA Baller Beats” laid claim to being the first videogame to incorporate basketballs into the action, challenging players to dribble in time with high-energy music in order to score points.
The videogame taps into movement-sensing abilities of Kinect accessories for Xbox 360 controllers to challenge players to bounce balls in synch with on-screen cues and even do stunts like passing behind backs or between legs.
“Kinect knows everything you are doing so you can’t fake it out,” a spokesman for Majesco Entertainment said while demonstrating ‘Baller Beats’ at the E3 videogame industry extravaganza in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
Copies of the game will be bundled with basketballs when they are released in September at a price of $60 each, according to Majesco.
“Even though the game comes with a full-size basketball you can use any rubber ball, even a swimming pool ball,” Majesco’s Liz Buckley told. “That may be a little less intimidating for moms in the living room.”
The ball cannot be black because it would be too difficult to track properly, according to Buckley.
Majesco also showed off a “Zumba Fitness Core” videogame that combined the Columbian dance exercise craze with Kinect for Xbox.
“Core” will be released later this year as a new installment in a franchise that has sold more than seven million videogames since it was launched in November 2010.

Is this The End for Mr. Bean?

Is one of the world's most celebrated man-children finally growing up ... and saying goodbye?
It looks like Mr. Bean fans may soon have to indulge their love of hijinks, pratfalls and shenanigans elsewhere, as Rowan Atkinson has announced that the time to retire the comedy character is nigh.
It's somewhat ironic that, for Atkinson, playing a role that brings a smile to so many faces has actually become "a little sad."
"The stuff that has been most commercially successful for me —- basically quite physical, quite childish —- I increasingly feel I'm going to do a lot less of," he told the Daily Telegraph's Review. "Apart from the fact that your physical ability starts to decline, I also think someone in their 50s being childlike becomes a little sad. You've got to be careful."
Mr. Bean, a character whom Atkinson developed while studying for his master's degree at Oxford University, made his debut in the eponymous television series that ran for 14 episodes from 1990-1995. He was also the star of his own animated series that ran from 2002-2004 and two feature films, "Bean" (1997) and "(2007).
Mr. Bean was initially described by Atkinson as being a "child in a man's body," a gleefully oblivious buffoon who somehow managed to navigate and overcome everyday (and sometimes more outrageous) challenges and obstacles through a mix of innocence and general cluelessness. The character, who rarely speaks, has been compared to roles played by Charlie Chaplin and those of other silent actors known for physical comedy and theatricality.
Atkinson admits that playing the well-meaning but bumbling clown has kept him from scoring more serious roles. He hopes to finally be seen in a different light as he prepares to make his "straight play" debut in a revival of Simon Gray's "Quartermaine's Terms" in London's West End.
Well, at least we still have Pee-wee Herman, as Paul Reubens doesn't seem to think there's anything sad about an older man acting like a big kid.

The World’s Largest Ever Firework Display Take Place In Kuwait

November 10, 2012 marked the golden jubilee of Kuwait’s constitution and the country celebrated it with a spectacular $15-million fireworks display which earned the wealthy Gulf state a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Tens of thousands of Kuwaitis and expatriates filled the seaside Arabian Gulf Road to watch the dazzling display of colors and light that saw a staggering 77,282 fireworks launched over a period of one hour. The visual presentation marked 50 years to the day since the late emir Sheikh Abdullah al-Salem al-Sabah announced that Kuwait had become the first Arab state in the Gulf to issue a constitution and have a parliament.

During the past 50 years, parliament was dissolved nine times, six of them since mid-2006, while some articles of the constitution itself were frozen twice to suspend parliament for a total of 11 years in the 1970s and 1980s.

The celebration came as the government and opposition are locked in one of the worst showdowns in the OPEC member's history, amid accusations by the opposition that the government has staged a coup against the constitution.More than 150 people and 24 policemen were slightly hurt during three massive demonstrations held by the opposition to protest against the amendment of the electoral law ordered by the emir last month.

The opposition claims the amendment is in breach of the constitution and allows the government to influence the outcome of parliamentary polls slated for December 1.

For my daughter, I was Aamir Khan, says Shah Rukh

He is one of India's biggest superstars but Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan says it is lonely at the top and he is constantly fighting with the "feeling of emptiness".
"There is something wrong in me. I sense it. I feel it but I don't know what it is," Shah Rukh said during the ThinkFest conclave, an annual event, in Goa.

"I have a beautiful family. I have a few friends with whom I spend lot of time. I don't want to die like my father. I don't want to be unknown. I would like to be just successful. Believe me it is lonely at the top."

Shah Rukh, who turned 47 recently, is in the process of giving final touches to his autobiography.
"Somehow there is this feeling of emptiness. I have this restlessness, strangeness, which I fill up with my acting."

The actor, who lost his father at the age of 15, recalled how his family was always short of money in his childhood.
"Once, my father took me to show a cinema in Delhi. He did not have enough money. We sat near Kamani auditorium and he told me that it is wonderful to see the vehicles passing.
"When I want to take my son out for a movie I should be able to show him the movie and not the cars," said Shah Rukh.

He has been ruling the film industry since his successful debut with 1992 film 'Deewana' but Shah Rukh says he always had a fear of failure that his father went through.
"I think my father was most successful failure in the world and I am proud of him," the actor said, adding that his father was a "handsome pathan".

Shah Rukh also got nostalgic about the moment when his father died and his body was brought home.
"My sister just collapsed and for the next two years she did not recover from the shock. She didn't cry but she could not face the reality of our father's death," he said.
"A lot of things which are Bollywood-like or flamboyant in me are actually to cover up my emotions. I don't have guts to be so simple. To avoid depression I act."
Shah Rukh said that 90 per cent of the things which he depicts in the films are experiences of his life.
Meanwhile, Shah Rukh ruled out that he was going through a midlife crisis and termed some instances of his arrogance as being a typical "Delhi boy."

"I am a Delhi boy...," he said, during an interview at ThinkFest conclave that concluded in Goa yesterday.

Shah Rukh, who allegedly slapped director Shirish Kunder during a party and was involved in a brawl with the policemen at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai during an IPL match, said, "I am not going through midlife crisis. I am going through Delhi phases."
The actor also remembered how during his initial days in Mumbai when he was shooting for 'Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na', he landed in trouble for threatening a journalist over an article that linked him to an actress.

"I went to the house of that journalist and threatened him," Shah Rukh said, adding that "next day this act of mine landed me in jail. I was allowed to make only one phone call from the police station. Instead of making a call to my wife or my lawyer, I called the same journalist and threatened him again." He termed his act as "foolishness."
Shah Rukh also said that till some time back, his daughter used to think that he was Aamir Khan.
"Four years back, my daughter used to think that I am Aamir Khan and for my son I am always a hero," the superstar said.

On the occasion, Shah Rukh read out some excerpts from his autobiography, to which he is giving final touches. It sketches his life from childhood to stardom.
