Former Spice Girl Mel B wasn't known as Scary Spice for nothing! The fearless Brit recently took the ultimate fashion risk when she stepped out in (gasp!) an immediately identifiable dress worn by another pop star who made her debut in the '90s — the legendary Miss Britney Spears. The two both donned the same sheer lace Dolce & Gabbana dress — albeit 11 years apart. Perhaps Mel B was feeling confident as she reunited with The Spice Girls for the Olympics closing ceremony in London last week. Will she be able to make Britney's sexy look her own? Please pretend that I'm using a haughty British accent as we play the latest round of everyone's favorite fashion game and decide ... who wore it best?!
Mel B, 37, rocked the daring design for a date night with her hubby of five years, producer Stephen Belafonte, in London on August 8. The singer, who left her locks loose, toned down the alluring frock by wearing it slightly longer than Spears, and by adding a black mini skirt underneath. Black heels completed her sexy-yet-simple ensemble. Can you believe she's given birth to three children?!
Spears, who has given birth to two sons herself by now, was 19 and childless when she rocked the barely-there dress at the MTV Video Music Awards on September 6, 2001. The singer happily bared her bod, wearing only a bra and boy shorts underneath the sheer getup. She finished the look with strappy black sandals and a down 'do. Although it's hard to believe, Spears wore even less as she later took the stage that same night and famously performed her new single "I'm a Slave for You" with a snake draped around her neck.
The woman otherwise known as Melanie Brown, who's donned her fair share of crazy costumes onstage, looked hot in this number! Kudos to her for covering up a little more than Spears while still showing off her fab physique. However, saying that someone else wore this dress better than Britney would be like saying someone else looked better in Jennifer Lopez's green Versace dress at the 2000 Grammys, or Gwyneth Paltrow's pink Ralph Lauren dress at the 1999 Oscars — OK, I'm exaggerating, but you get the idea! The point is that, for me, Spears owns the look. So while Mel B puts up a good fight, I can't help but call this one for her competition. Do you agree?
